He will be returning to Salt Lake City on March 24 at 8:10 PM.

To complete his Trinidad experience, they went to Maracas to buy Bake and Shark. He was planning on getting doubles again before he comes home.

See you soon Quinn :)Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-84246687910945652592011-03-22T11:16:00.001-07:002011-03-22T11:40:11.437-07:00February and March 2011At the beginning of February Quinn was transferred to a new area. He was also given a new companion, Shaquille McKenna. Elder Gordon and Quinn actually baptized Brother McKenna in January. Brother McKenna is serving a mini-mission. He is really cool and really excited to serve. He is making plans to serve a full time mission in a year or so. He was born in Trinidad, but grew up in England and the U.S. He lived in Brooklyn before moving back. He has an English accent. He will be returning to live in the states on the same day Quinn does.

Quinn has been able to keep in touch with some converts. Patrick, the brother from Nigeria got back in touch with Quinn after a year of nothing.

Quinn is always the adventurous type with food. He has had:
• Roti – Curry (chicken, goat, beef, lamb, whatever)
• Doubles
• Bake and Shark
• Souse
• Cow Heel – very chewy but not too terrible
• Iguana Stew

As we in Utah bore the brunt of another snow storm, Quinn spent time at the beach getting a sun burn!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcBQL6VoetfYf2QoloUiAoorNwQRREE0NXwq4J7RyhBO0zCooxfY58FyOu6pBWpRzh5XgpbO_uGvTZ2mAsXdSPl-fa6wRwyx8VD_HkvD4UBKhn2HgRXgPUWvgEqLNwhbvzBq_A04ZypGE/s320/DSCF4679%255B1%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5586975523308082898" />

The first week of March was Carnival. Quinn and the other missionaries were stuck in the in the house for several days. They made up a game called Carnival-soccer or “Carniball”. They played Monopoly and by the end of the second game Quinn owned half the board and had over 30 million Monopoly dollars.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEickYywvtPJtiK_rLqhG9S8HngY1_XSjAZk1UtLwV_QCHWPY5o7VM_1Tj8j8xiTyZn3uL6qMkEmpJ2EviXMinL78eka5QB2KKgBuqJ3FCv5vreRoHX2TJKB9JDA9fjg2j5FTMKWoTPVpOk/s320/1.PNG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5586971307315478802" />

By then end of the 4 days, Quinn had the best beard out of the lot.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgbCeSqt7DY6lX_tY5vUDJlAQ-AJCZA3WyQWUnZqTLXKxmL2_KMysq_2DHVOB-ysh_7Wy_SnoRT7zIv2xrLoVfXrTeGkYCBJql63X1Pn3DMNInCmv4s75ShNFcpNdcehgIAxCSmPbe0bM/s320/DSCF4735%255B1%255D.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5586975783116704210" />

Quinn hit his 2 year mark on March 11th. It is amazing that he will be home in Utah in such a short period of time. He wants it to slow down, so he can enjoy some more of it.

The weather is a constant 80 degrees, which Quinn loves.

Quinn’s release date got postponed one week. He is set to return to Utah on the 24th of March instead of the 17th. They changed the date to coordinate the transfer schedule with the Dominican Republic MTC for all local missionaries.

Quinn spent Christmas in the mission home, then over to the Stake Patriarch’s home for Christmas dinner. It was good to talk to him and hear his accent. It isn’t too bad, but we had a hard time understanding some of the words that he said. They are local words, which he will have to explain to us again when he gets home.

Quinn had to leave Trinidad, and turn right back and reenter in order to get the proper stamp to stay in the country. There are now less than 20 missionaries in Trinidad. They cover 4 areas between them all. They have a car in order to cover all the area they need to.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhTsddpH0tXPKrN92I3piqdl1MyGUg15SvTDLaIz3a8pOGbMPhJ75J30IEFbb5X-0U8B0xy6vPbrAgPzu8U8yQKauU-cqkjBebhXum-gUxbaSAXw5GW_SqyIDWTljs3AfvjENzjDJOtnI4/s320/DSCF4541%255B1%255D.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5575174376521673362" />

They had Stake Conference which was broadcast from Salt Lake City. It was presided over by President Uchtdorf. Also in attendance (via satellite) was Elder Oaks and Sister Barbara Thompson of the Relief Society General Presidency. It was a neat opportunity for Quinn to be a part of.

Quinn bought a cricket bat so he could teach everyone when he gets home.
They baptized a man named Ravi. He has had a long journey to get baptized into the church, but he finally made it.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 213px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjG0XsIk8LTuH8FcTyMjYTuEyom2qqBcBWtympd1OJMrmPQWQaaSqi8om7UYXVIqTPzyWH8tfDb5bVWyasi39vgUG3H6pI0xzjmoKjnJ78rU4xn1wcshuGFjdnB9LcT0iFF9KS5XuDe44k/s320/100_1937.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5575174382708854418" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhF3GS2nlg0xo9o7OXEzBQMrpKfHatW7WT9rso0OuQ-C-aPWe1-VAnJVm9Stj5MTw-8uXfs43GYQxfKW_C_YFhPwameLsoDmQ5vyI3Rz2uuvyTojOJ1xB6etjpr1mAjBnqWOt7KC4Wl48A/s320/DSCF4560.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5575174379037239266" />Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-14684172541144873382010-12-26T07:51:00.001-08:002010-12-26T07:59:09.776-08:00October & November 2010Quinn made the move to Trinidad quite easily. It is everything he remembers. Seeing the skyscrapers was quite a culture shock to him. He gets to experience Rick’s Bake & Shark again (an all-time favorite). He spent several p-days there enjoying the delicious food.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuOng5hZGwbamVn5SpAiWj9XIti4m_ex3ZMHID83ggCjWmP8x2dIHBs0Qerr4hBdK-TBXUzwGG2ks2PKfrqZ38BGDaXbTtTQak0FLolCOCm09a93n3es6UohEfzVFVSbFENi97lHjJ-Ec/s320/Quinn_Bake_and_Shark_SEP2010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5555019331220172162" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvH6TUP37QmldHfg_4ohN6JvSEfG2M5WzaY-n2ziaqFJWdnaUHT1IYHNau5BxQAs1F7NfTYwzLicZFqDa5rya6vEn4wkCNBNUEGT7fMd1PiESS90eylyrtXNfh0g_kSsGUzD081YAGIbs/s320/Shark_Sandwich_SEP2010.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5555019334943993554" />

Quinn is no longer companions with Elder Anthony, he is now with Elder Neilson from Nephi, Utah.

For one of their p-days, the elders went to a place called Toco. Quinn taught with assistants about how to find people to teach. They did an activity where they hid money in a room and eveyone had to find it before they started the lesson. The rest of Zone Conference was about member missionary work.

Quinn had the oportunity to take President Gamiette out with him teaching. They didn't have much success, because all appointments fell through, but they did have one awesome experience with a man named Orin.

They completed the total overhaul of their apartment. They painted, replaced the floor, and cleaned the ceilings.

Quinn got a new companion, Elder Ramnarian from Guyana. He was 9 months out when the two became companions.

Quinn attended Zone Leader Council in Trinidad. They flew there of course. It was a 2 day thing with lots of flights, and several delayed just like Quinn predicted they would be. At this point Quinn has taken 34 plane rides on his mission.

Quinn's Birthday was celebrated duirng the ZL Council. They sang him Happy Birthday and had a white cake with Lime Frosting. He loved it.

Pictures!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 267px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBw5VqEHR94usnZDGTJn8cpvZMzKvd-4zT-wTVTIK6MfCzlQ_jfAzu-n6JcXcc2CFvbafEpGD_0SH8ezNVWZa_Zb9izDie7mjB8JTdepxljbYW3HsAgsn82UBUsC56erJGbGFU1K2RmF4/s320/q1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5537361276469405010" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjlG6eoYGhhEeXKtH4-XnZeq7VGnZ7wlGziceQQTE3k1MLHyS0WZUEYEKQkHzWyaoneHKI1oRr9zEjyL4y5XPHq_PlXNuXa0N0jlN-Yh7nltH1vZiyHoL24Og8SGCQPYPEOOqnazhr9Yls/s320/q2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5537361282528229778" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYQWVv7Y4UOy3d0-xScW8ovOcxRx2UM2UzPjJcPPrl3sBpBuPRoIk2kdJ61yKO-zKM6OKUTP-JZo-pq2kaNdkZp9C-RUoxhDvQA-5K1T8h2yu0XbeuTGYNquzMlVNhw-JELKiIjeo3uGY/s320/q3.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5537361291979559026" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKszxGY0wpSadI7YlyidzitqTmpTBuv4aQ2hDWVZ5nCRiFvzpv8gEtbUd2juNUzQofWUYVqo_txwBHniesftHQSYL4yfhHuVVK4D4pJiwcf7EgIK4SSp6_c8MWeBkUu9Z3cyavop9_CnI/s320/q4.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5537361293564450850" />Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-49349448990963359502010-08-07T07:44:00.000-07:002010-08-07T08:01:23.564-07:00April & May 2010The week of April 26th, Quinn had President Gamiette down for Stake Conference and Zone Conference. He was able to do splits with the assistants. They taught 13 lessons that day.

The wather is hot and humid and rainy in the spring. It makes the area all muddy. He has to shine his shoes on a weekly basis so people can tell they are black, not muddy caked brown.

Quinn was able to attend a West Indies vs. England Cricket game. He attended with Elder Moses and Elder Coronado.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgcsN_mhQ3KZfrUVs5CAbxBVpV95T-kPa7VcRhcrnPukD2SUPPsyrkZIyizQ1nI1i0gK0jOhnyJZLrH-hw6XaSBWAs8E-Tztv3pQDblGOw_a673xvA4vTAZwatC2VaIlXnAejagQnVS98s/s320/Cricket_Game_May2010_1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5502683113745040402" />

Talking to Quinn on Mothers Day was nice. We talked from the fire station and conferencecd in Rick and Cami. It was hard to hear sometimes, but after much frustration, at least we got to talk to him. He left the call headed to play an all night game of Monopoly. He did not win :(

Quinn spends some of his pday time having game competitions. He took 3rd place in a Battleship competition. He also plays Risk with the elders. He was able to drive, and of course he drove on the wrong side of the road! They drive on the left side of the rroad down there, when he was helping the Senior Couple, the Ricks, charge the battery in their car.

Quinn has surely gotten his dad's handyman skills. He has made many improvements to most of the apartments where he has lived. He layed down new flooring in this apartment because the old floor was so bad.

They baptized a man named Rejendra. He speeks very little. He points with his face, his eyes, lips and eyebrows all together.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKHiozP059wztEjabtXbZaPyKPE3wWxssWsKjjfcb1HXlw6TofVyl1IlKLwt4RuokN4PIfMjT8PFjANNmed_RWm2RonzEZxJ8paiSdpZulKOzZOCOuqxlAYzPJho238LbbGsrRjpAKCv4/s320/DSC03500.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5502682544439288546" />

Transfers came and Quinn and Elder Coronado became zone leaders together. They are pretty much best friends, so it is going to be a great match.Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-45736271315428800652010-04-19T15:52:00.001-07:002010-04-19T15:52:38.471-07:00Zone LeaderQuinn’s newest favorite place is Gift Land. They have everything a person could want. It sounds like they have movies months before they come out on DVD here in the states. I wonder what the quality is like.
Quinn met up with Simone Cummings who is from Grenada. She came to her mothers funeral, and Quinn was able to spend some time talking with her. It sounds like the branch there in Grenada is doing well, and the converts that Quinn had worked with are still attending the branch.
Quinn attended Zone Leader council in mid March. It was taught by Elder Coleman from the 1st quorum of the 70. He talked about establishing the church through baptism and higher priesthood ordinances. He also talked about the Book of Mormon. The meeting was in Trinidad, so Quinn got to travel. It was odd to see the differences of Guyana and the super Americanized Trinidad.
As we suffer on in a delayed winter, Quinn has acclimated quite well. He was having a hard time sleeping a few nights ago, because it was so cold (a whopping 78°). He is already requesting a coat, gloves, and fleece and wool beanie meet him at the airplane when he comes home in a year.
There has now been a mission all-nighter!! Quinn and Elder Coronado and Elder Murray stayed up all night playing Risk. Elder Coronado now owns the world!!

They have been working to reactivate a family who has a 13 year old daughter who is not baptized. They were able to baptize her. I am not sure of her name.

Quinn was moved to be put with the other zone leader, Elder Moses. He is now in the Georgetown 1st branch. They are able to do a lot of “zone leader stuff”. (whatever that means) Elder Moses is from Guyana. He is a lot more motivated than many of the missionaries in the country. He came out on the mission before the government put a limit on the missionaries.

In Guyana they celebrate Easter on Monday, so they can have the day off work.

The weekend of General Conference Quinn also conducted the Zone conference. They heard from a sister missionary who recently got back from her mission in the Dominican Republic. She was released in between sessions of zone conference.Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-75602929424395365102010-03-17T18:30:00.000-07:002010-03-17T18:34:57.178-07:00Updates, now that I have the right password.There has not been much success as yet, but Quinn not going to let that stop him from working hard. He is feeling more and more exhausted every day. He has really taken to heart what Mike said before he left. “Work yourself till you feel like you’re 90.” With the intensity that he works with, Quinn will feel closer to 200 when he gets home.
Oildown is hard to explain. It’s breadfruit, dumplings, some kind of meat and a lot of seasoning. Quinn loves it! He just don’t know what exactly is in it… Probably best. Haha
Things are very 3rd world here. In the city, where Quinn is, it’s not too bad. He went on exchanges with Elder Livingston. They walked over some 20 foot trenches (basically the sewer system) on board bridges barely wider than your foot. It was fun! There are a lot of Christians, but plenty Hindus and Muslims too. They live near this crazy church called the “Mystical Triangle Order of the Great Shepherd”. It’s messed up!
A family Quinn was working with in Grenada, The Cummings, the mother lives in Guayna. He is serving in her branch.
Quinn is officially the senior zone leader now. After 3 weeks in the area. The other one was emergency transferred to another zone and they gave Quinn someone who has never been a zone leader. He's a local named elder Moses. He's really cool and Quinn is excited to work with him. Pretty cool. Lots of responsibility though. It's cool seeing what's going on throughout the whole mission.
The area of Quinns mission is totally different from where he has been before. He is in the capital city, but it's still pretty small. Very poor. Apartment is dirty, but with nice water pressure. Always cold! Showering is no fun. They have a washer that takes a month to fill on its own, so they use a bucket to fill it up from the sink. Use a clothes line strung up in the apartment to dry. It's hot. The people are racist. haha But not all of them.
Elder Bharat got his wisdom teeth out. Quinn watched the doctor do the first one, but didn’t see anything so with the second one he stood up and tried to see a bit closer. The dr said she could come watch over her shoulder. In true Quinn fashion, somehow he was asked by the doctor to put on some gloves and assist. I am not sure how he gets these awesome opportunities. He got to hold the little sucker while she cut, drilled and pulled.
They were not able to work because elder Bharat was sick. Quinn managed to read most of the Book of Mormon in the time he was waiting. He also was able to brush up on his artist skills, drawing lots of pictures. He didn’t send any home, so I am not sure how well he did, but he thinks they are great
Quinn celebrated a holiday called Phagway(pog’-wuh) where people go around and get you wet and throw colored powder at you. It is the Hindu festival of colour. Hopefully he will send some pictures of that.
Quinn had transfers. He is now with elder Babbel. He is from Oregon. Quinn calls him Nacho Libre.
They are one of the two all-American companionships in the zone. They get along very well.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhhESWewWlip8giAAhQCILSchs5Rwt8s2ANhsg8mFyueCA6hZgEqNU_Ig_Yw7YUh-92zXKJOvNYcZYIc0JM8WdHAJ5QH8DmPDENgaomeL8jhHf8ullLnGtABGiBmr8iH49jYMci3WHXGpo/s320/Nacho+Libre.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5449781099068527362" />Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-46655098409918821872010-01-19T17:38:00.001-08:002010-01-19T17:40:06.824-08:00BIG CHANGES!!!Well, big news. Quinn is leaving Trinidad!!! He will be leaving Wednesday (January 20, 2010). After Zone Conference Quinn found out that he will be moving to Guyana. He will be the Zone Leader there!! His old trainee, Elder Livingston, will be the district leader down there. His “greenie” will also be going to Guyana and will be another district leader. Quinn sure knows how to teach them to be successful missionaries!!

He will be in Georgetown, the capital. The area is called Grove. Guyana has the second worst living conditions of any mission in the world. He mentions that he will have a “cutlass” but I am not positive what that is. He guesses:
• No Running Wager, just a big black tank
• Showers in Buckets
• Not sure what the apartment will be
• Filter all water, because it is so bad
• A local missionary companion (Elder Bharat)
• Most people cannot read
• Daily Blackouts
• A SWEET scripture case made out of alligator
• Lots of alligator to eat
• A cool leather belt with his name on it

With Quinn leaving on Wednesday, he will have to leave before the baptisms he has lined up for next month. He has 6 set. They have also had 4 less active people come back to church.

He did not feel the earthquake that destroyed Haiti.

Zone conference was incredible. They discussed about ways to get the work to really take off. They are going to work with strong members and get referrals of the less actives in the area. They too are working on the retention of the members. Isn’t it amazing that the things we study and work on here, are the same things that they work on there.

Last thing to look forward in Guyana:
• Haiti is the only country in the Western Hemisphere poorer than Guyana

At least while in these other countries Quinn is not forgetting his roots:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEifaQKN9ROg-6rvM0baPyC6Fj4S2UrSCGhjeK95FwDWyQjyxkJ1rIZdxkDxcDmD_1-6mnV7SETCS3O3zxkSjK3TX42CJooS8Sruaag7gcTbpncUC_C9LbpTKawKAi__93Y_pKgqbeKfrT4/s320/Blue+Man+Pacakes.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5428630714738119650" />Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-12961303307977008782010-01-18T17:10:00.000-08:002010-01-18T17:12:30.914-08:00January UpdatesThings are pretty slow and there’s nothing fun to do in Chaguanas.

Quinn miss’s the islands. He is not sure yet if he will be able to return to the islands. He received a red stamp in his passport when he arrived in Trinidad, which, he says, signifies that he can not return to Trinidad for 5 years once he leaves. We are not certain that is what it means, so we will have to see.

They working with a lot of cool people, but they aren’t committing to a specific day to be baptized. They want to, but they don’t know when. They did have 8 investigators in sacrament meeting a few weeks ago, which is cool. But the new requirements are making it very hard to get people to commit to baptism. They do have one man, who’s wife and children are members, is coming to church and may commit to baptism soon.

Quinn finally saw the ocean for the first time on since moving to Trinidad.

Quinn is really enjoying having Elder McKeachnie as his companion. They work hard and have a lot of fun together. Transfers are soon, and Quinn is hoping they do not get split up.

Below is Quinn’s favorite story (so far) from the mission:
“Grenada is about my favorite experience. With Patrick waiting for half an hour to talk to us and ask what church we represent, then telling us he wants to get baptized and being pretty much the most golden person EVER, with how the church was really struggling in the beginning with about 40 people in church when I got there and 80 people when I left. The church grew both literally with the building expanding and figuratively with the membership growing and people coming more regularly. One med student, speaking before he left for home the last time, talked about the changes he’d seen in the branch. He was speaking from a wooden pulpit that didn’t wobble when you leaned on it, through speakers so everyone could hear him, to a chapel filled nearly to capacity. It was figurative of all the changes he’d seen since he came. The church had a much more solid foundation in Grenada. Now they’re even moving out to a new town and are hopefully going to be starting a new branch in Grenada before too long! I’m so excited to hear all of it! Patrick was especially awesome because there are 4 wards in the city where he lives, a temple in his country and yet he had to come to Grenada to me and Elder Larson to learn about the gospel. He has seen the book of Mormon in Yoruba, his native language, but never realized it until we showed it to him. He’s actually back in Nigeria now where so many more blessings of the gospel are available to him. I’m sad that I won’t be able to see him unless I go to Nigeria, but I’m happy to see that he’ll be in an area where he has so many more opportunities for growth.”

Zone conference was January 11th. We will see in his next letter how it went.Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-29274825619041256312010-01-04T18:41:00.000-08:002010-01-04T18:51:38.555-08:00Merry Christmas from the West Indies

Talking to Quinn at Christmas was neat. There were a few problems (like we didn't have the right number) but we eventually got to talk to him for almost 2 hours.

Quinn has been eating intersing things still including Cow Tongue, Pig Snouts and Doubles. Doubles are a common street food in Trinidad and Tobago. It is a sandwich made with two flat fried breads, called "bara", filled with curried chick peas or garbanzo beans, commonly called channa. Topped with a variety of spicy chutneys (mango, cucumber, coconut, tamarind) and extra pepper sauce. He buys those quite often.

Quinn still misses seeing the ocean. It has been an adjustment for him.

It was great for Quinn to get to hear Mikkean say "Hi Quinn". I have to say it was the highlight of the call.

Quinn is doing really great. He is having a great time, and growing so much spiritually.Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-2679727289595316292010-01-04T18:36:00.000-08:002010-01-04T18:41:00.830-08:00Pre-Christmas UpdatesSo this is from the middle of December, before we talked to him at Christmas. I am still going to post, just because there is some interesting stuff.

After 6 months Quinn has finally been transferred. He left to Chaguanas Trinidad on Wednesday December 9th. The area is full of east Indians who love to feed the missionaries. He is homesick for Grenada, but he felt the same way when he left St. Vincent. The 6 months he lived in Grenada is the longest he has lived anywhere (besides home).

The transition is weird because he doesn’t see the ocean ever, and after 9 months of seeing it every day, it is quite a bummer. The weather is cool, and a bit rainy.

Quinn is learning about the Hindu religion which is the prominent religion there.

The branch is small but strong. There are several really cool investigators. The baptisms will take place in a font instead of the ocean. The Stake President lives in the Branch, and is a really neat guy.

His new companion is named Elder McKeachnie. He is from Highland, Utah. The get along well. Quinn is the only companion he has had besides his trainer.

We will be talking to Quinn this Friday, YEAH CHRISTMAS, so hopefully there will be much more to post next week.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgYnXqgRDWDWr_6MIMAQCM_LVWm1rf18w8BQ5aCZO4NO5R6mPOXeB6lSgnspfuvtPR6iUNz6yAf4JFXMRfCXaPXLbka7tPauzRseOBpfs08DrG3Kh3UzRsH5EXn9i4TpPRyVUFxdEZzhbo/s320/People+from+the+mission.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423080009857291074" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtdNOTI5c1XdrstYuoQKHavmrw99FlV71lf2rGpJheZSbHbqRlMH3sUwVKa39MbR4MAUhevB6Xwgmb6j3JIy-7nidHEm5EYunumrHebUyr2Wyx6eIqHpHoZd1vDopYNWDC_ddlGXt6ngw/s320/Quinn+and+2+people.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5423080004463153506" />Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-66762437540001960332009-11-23T17:09:00.000-08:002009-11-23T17:10:40.616-08:00UpdatesThere haven't been any pictures from Quinn in the past few e-mails, but there have been some interesting updates:

In talking to President Gamiette, Quinn is pretty sure he will not be in Grenada for another transfer. The apartment they are currently in will be taken over by 2 sister missionaries. There was no indication as to where Quinn will be moving.

They are eating pretty well in Grenada. Mostly it’s pasta or rice. Quinn is becoming quite the cook. He has tried oildown, and he loved it The one he tried had land crab and pig snout in it. He will soon try lambie (fish from the conch shell) and sea eggs (sea urchin – white ones).

A few weeks ago they found a really cool beach. It is really small and no one knows about it. There are 2 beach chairs and 2 palm frond umbrellas there. There is a rock ledge that slows down the waves, making the water very shallow. The missionaries are allowed to go into the water up to their knees, so they love this spot.

They had zone conference in St. Lucia. They set a bunch of mission goals. There is a big shift from just baptizing to more retention. It was rumored that every English speaking missionary in all the islands of the mission would be there. I am not sure if it happened, but it sounds cool. That would have included Elder Manwill, who was in Quinn’s MTC group, and Quinn hasn’t seen any of them since being out.Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-2326147724608027972009-11-04T16:25:00.000-08:002009-11-04T16:50:03.714-08:00What happened in OctoberQuinn has been pretty busy these last few weeks.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh18PZ7Ouln2TQx40Ah769C_SftmlvSbWQdBCERlYQ6iJu26NPZl77__zLoWgMbhfna6RnRR-XwTIRJzypy0U8FLBrZHIJc7Oe4AP4D3m6sw2JYOz9Nc1w3yu7KFD7bEiUQelDpFZrlA-Q/s320/cute+little+kid+w+Quinns+tag+on.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400414307993614850" />

They built a bunk bed. The elders that were living with Quinn and his companion finally found an apartment, but it only had 1 Queen bed, so the boys got creative and built the bunkbeds. Buying one was too expensive. It took a few weeks, but the finished product was great. They painted it in rasta colors, which happen to be the colors of the Grenadian flag. Quinn was the mastermind who drew up the structural drawings for it. It looks pretty sweet

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG9qg9JudRDnGSxZfm8RjiUrAW-404KqNS_b4AD40j5SE6DcfDr7XRUHnQEvOq0GToKaQc0oglVpI4TlXHXpW6XlOidGL0gzWjSYmOrieSXQb1xHZgk-RTfDtNRu14-Kc1jc1Y5nFH2qY/s320/Bunkbeds.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400413528732189010" />

He hasn’t taken too many pictures lately, because he has seen everything 3-5 times in the 3 months he has been there.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuU0i7mkiJLbIYtP4IseeUQc-OjcYuhS_ebOEmeXkTihFvY0lFpS1dW3ogXHF9X3hRririkfGP6NtMYhtLbZSALtjBHSPkJ8aJklDCof8perQAmnguPXTPIZxNhjntyrE53yooDMQxyvY/s320/Quinn+and+elder+at+waterfall.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400414306572252834" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgqz1RV-E6WMJ0aBxdsqEhyphenhyphenXqHpQ19Mb0ZLAIPSYpEqnonLY77v_FqTm2OgqSutOaFjTshdOuuQHg4YxUfocRlAjL5jhl6JKRrIjX61BGOldr9pekvRUOzkyp142KpDYzwj5Jp1CmQNZdo/s320/tag+through+a+rock.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400415137924632722" />

Quinns take on General Conference October 2009: “General conference was awesome. As always, Elder Holland’s talk was incredible and destroys any false beliefs that members or nonmembers may have held. I love his talks more and more every time I hear them. President Monson’s talk in priesthood was great too, about anger. We see a lot of it down here.”
One experience of the anger he sees was a man who put his arm thorught a window in St. Vincent. He had big flaps of skin hanging down. Both Quinn and his companion went into rescue mode and made sure he got to the hospital. It was a while between the time it happened and when he actually told us about it because he didn’t want to freak out Patti. But now he knows exactly what happens when you punch a window.

They had a wedding and a baptism. Majellia’s brother and his fiance’, Ron and Terianne. The Rasmussens gave him a Book of Mormon a long time ago and he said he burned it. Turns out that he didn’t and now he is getting baptized. It’s amazing what the spirit can do to people. TA also said she wasn’t ready to get married and baptized, but she prayed about it and she decided that she should. So that will be happening Saturday.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPSCfv6twH4FFiJ71c5_fcRh7zGYOcCF4b_tnlZIfFaYq78rzOJYOVYTpe9kEd63wpJ0UxShp53eRk-wK7_uvT-z3CNGCu_LV8s-yDhtUINkeN_npJQKhM8SVoMO2TJDkolA2LqLbawWs/s320/Ron+and+Terianne.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400413536522550242" />

Majellia’s twin, Marellia should be getting baptized at the same time, but Quinn has not said if that baptism actually took place. She has backed out on her baptism date several times in the past.

They visited Fort Matthew again, it's a blast. They got a tour from one of the guys in charge of restoring it. During the invasion in '83 the US bombed it on accident. It was supposed to hit the military base just up the hill, but they missed and hit the fort which was being used as a mental hospital. OOPS!!! They're working on restoring it and making it really cool. It won’t be finished for 5 years, but it will be nice for Quinn to go back and visit and see the progress.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhz7XX52zPg_bKelj4ppyzj_Q-wDxjVgbDL75bmWvirPKJen9WtmnBCwB5ALJcdAWQB2BNT0yhyphenhyphen7Ur5oIt-rBZ1LAtkQXFJvtosTx9uZ3pZ2L4GU0ufP8ZHklF5bK2CM_HLOw4XOK2H0Nc/s320/boy+band+pose+at+the+fort.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400414322465729890" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhDR3J9S7mdNWd1ASqnRIOQiBVfc6Z_3XOzsX3EoNP6i0TLZKTlhfeBDAhQu_X0FLIGO8smlC16l1K7E9RheGD89VbMC1-XFCiNeCkAzcZXfu4lKCGSTGjiNOAE7mZxOTkJMnEhapsRmKs/s320/hangin+out.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400415145219548386" />

Thanksgiving, celebrated on Laceys Birthday (October 25th), in Grenada is to celebrate when the US came in and liberated them from the Cubans. Pretty interesting holiday.

They had all of the people Quinn has baptized in Grenada at church one week. 2 got the priesthood and 1 was confirmed. The rest had either already received the priesthood or were girls. Quinn has only baptized 3 women my whole time out and the rest have been priesthood holders. Pretty cool. The big problem in Grenada is the opposite of other countries. In Grenada the men all line up to get baptized and the women that are stubborn.

2 more missionaries are moving onto the island! There will be 6 now. Quinn will still be with elder Livingston, and Elder Coronado will be training a greenie.

President Gamiette and his family were all here for the weekend and they absolutely love Grenada now. His daughters were asking if they could miss the airplane back to Trinidad. They speak English pretty well, but the younger ones are having a hard time learning. It was really cool to have all of them there. There are going to be some really good changes on the island.

Not sure what this is, but Quinn sent it so you all can see it:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXSR0Pt4B6P7d7wA-dEcQdZy6XG9ra9xf4qy7ekkwIiqVGIvL7eIeBeBDsECqkgm11NRkZeDfoQSlCU49rs6s85-osP7PY5Ecj8qU18TXmUhWkDMHbPMMR98QiVR6wkOIXy5ejaU6rBEU/s320/tag+and+wood+thing.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5400415128786908530" />Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-9857161691965757762009-09-15T16:25:00.000-07:002009-09-15T16:49:22.837-07:00Zone ConferenceWith all the turmoil in Grenada Quinn is doing well. They have pulled all missionaries out of the country and will be moving them to many different parts of the mission. No missionaries have been hurt, and none have been jailed. Quinn and Elder Larson have been very busy preparing their apartment for the possibility of other people.

One morning they walked on the beach to Nick’s donuts and got some for breakfast. Then walked to the park and ate them, and walked back down the beach to their apartment.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi3rTGFmFAzIpPEjkcWptXhwp7plyDefy8ZwWe_agswhrQm-FBdXZzh2gTPG6dqO-8eVkvB7fwHdflEoVCNNb-TpeuYpXeURLn-aqTT6rLoOeT16sRPjnqldGN3wqlorBC3T39d_pLqA_E/s320/quinn+eating+donut+breakfast.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381843731816104786" />

They went to annendale falls. Quinn got to meet the new sister missionaries and they’re really cool. Elder Anderson of the Seventy was there and Quinn got to spend some time talking to him. Quinn was also informed that next transfer, he’ll be staying in Grenada. There will be two more missionaries coming to the country as well. They will be splitting Elder Larson and Quinn up, which neither is too excited about, but Quinn will get the chance to train another missionary. He will be with Elder Livingston. Elder Larson will be back with his MTC companion. Elder Larson will also be opening a new area called Happy Hill. Coming home from zone conference was nuts! They had to fly through St. Vincent to get there and meet up with the St Vincent elders. When they came home, the plane got into St. Vincent 45 minutes early and the plane going to Grenada was 2 hours late. They had a 5 hour layover to get home! They got home past midnight and were all dead tired.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgcYrT60LvJ-ekYNcaxSQ5p8zP8xyc3VYBNUSYimN1RBq-XVttxNMYOjyXmXcRuOhZBXzdXysx1wU2FYMB58Qg-sa_UR-WZcqhIqG-9z5u7hctaE52HHQMb3AwEqa7Ufc0drL-0NmFbn4/s320/zone+Conference+sept09.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5381844263502189490" />

Diamond got baptized and earned herself a CTR ring. The couple missionaries were in Santo Domingo with a couple getting sealed. Not many missionaries can say they are the only missionaries on an island. So that is pretty cool.

Although Quinn is getting to know the area better he does still get lost. They ended up at a resort called Le Phare Bleu and when asked how to get back to their house they were instructed to go back 2 miles to where they started and then head the opposite direction. There are some cool thing, like the gorgeous beach right outside our door. Once Quinn gets down to Guyana, things will change. It’ll be nice and dirty and very little running water and powerThat’s where the majority of the baptisms happen. However, people used to say Grenada was a dry island (in other words, they don’t baptize) but Quinn is trying to change that!

Quinn is district leader. He thought it would be a co-companionship, meaning to senior or junior companion, but on the transfer sheet, it doesn’t say that. Elder Larson has been out around 13 months now. He’s Quinns youngest companion (20), but he’s still way older than Quinn, mission age. He’s cool and they should work really well together.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgeEt-eXDT5o75nYzM8GwO3giFecedbCqGJ_4rr-aua6P0bzdIKr4UY4Eb9wfT1lE9Jup4L6uHiRYstzN0jgyqapK82hrmcrmMUBe5sWLmHc7YVTkLYvkG6F8diTMpAqhZoElEqn-v_Cdw/s320/Quinn+and+Elder+Larson.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5372850887939030834" />

Quinn claims he most definitely has the best mission on the earth! He does get to be in this incredibly beautiful country AND baptize a ton! He has had 3 baptisms so far and the number is only going up. The islands are known for being slow, so when Quinn gets to Guyana, things will look up even more. Provided he continues working as hard as he is.

Carnival has begun in Grenada. It started Friday night (8/7), but has just been getting worse. It ends on Tuesday (8/11). It’s been pouring rain and since they’re so afraid of it, it’s been pretty quiet most of the day

People in Grenada are fairly poor, but nothing like in Guyana. Umbrellas don’t really help out because 90% of the people just use the rain as a stupid excuse not to do something. It’s way lame. It poured last week, so they thought no one would be in church. Instead, a lot of people showed up! Mostly med students, of course, but also some visitors too, including 4 investigators.

Quinn had a baptism on Monday (8/17) Quinn had to clean out the font. They’re both really cool and Magella wants to be a missionary. She’s been bringing people to church and talking to her family about the gospel and everything. She had a big discussion about the Book of Mormon with her brother who burned a copy that we gave him because of the pictures that are in the front. He said that he knew it wasn’t true because the bible doesn’t have pictures in it. They are also teaching her friend Akim and his family now. Akim should have been baptized this week, but his father doesn’t want him to yet. They got his 3 sisters to come to church this week and they all really enjoyed it. They should be baptizing them soon as well.

They still working to find more people to teach. Particularly men that can hold the priesthood. Men are just stubborn no matter where you go in the world, so that can be difficult.

They work with members as much as we can here, but they’re very spread out (the branch covers the entire country! They are the only missionaries in the mission with a whole country to themselves) and not always available. The med students are really good about it when they have time. They’re all RM’s and want to help out.

Quinn is allowed to drink Dr. Pepper so he included a picture of that. In the picture he is wearing a Real Madrid jersey he bought down there. As much as Quinn hates country, he hates Soca music even more, and he is completely inundated with it from the passing busses. The country is preparing for Carnival this month so the music is on all the time.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpkwLyeXdflTmoYPZ1bMJefZ-LxXngWVg-Rl2-i9HeZ4PvvOo7TIuKfwJ5mOcjlyHbDErMjlbZGAlcepjYT_2mItWutntQ3aqHRJk2xmGmpSCukz6tktYQtm_oJdBr83Cpmh-uadQf71s/s320/dr+pepper+quinn.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5367049092563480882" />

The picture of Quinn with a Chinese man is our old elder’s quorum president, Qin. He’s moving back to China this week, so they had a goodbye party for him on Saturday. He’s way cool. He’s been a member for a little less than a year now. He lived here for 3 years working as a translator at a Chinese restaurant. Apparently there is a branch of the church in the town where he lives. Mainland China, can you believe it! The second coming will be here just now. That would be way cool to go to china and visit him. Grenada is absolutely beautiful. Below is the view from their apartment. They walk on the beach a lot and Quinn or Elder Monty as they call him, has even built a sand castle.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnxwx6WvCK2yWGh2OoDkp2x-IsV-sR4vXB_x26Uyj2xmwQCGV38-RfW1FPupWhGKvQLUFB2BruarK-kO7QLDCS7khU_D4Mvoi8omJgpkVcXkt2NA9HfU8T24E7Qki6VIwoEIXM0Z8zW1Q/s320/quinn+apartment+grenada+view.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362670778480757426" />

The church is really cool. It has a baptismal “font” there too. It’s steps to the ocean and a flat spot of rock. They are the only missionaries that have permission to go in the ocean for anything other than a baptism. They have to clean the font before they can baptize there and they’re also going to enlarge it. It’s really cool being in a branch full of return missionaries and their wives and kids.

Elder Monty went to visit Fort Frederick and Fort Matthew on a p-day. The second one is the coolest fort he has ever been to. It had lots of buildings in it, most of which were connected by a big tunnel system that they got to explore! There were lots of prison cells and just a ton of fun stuff to see! Fort Matthew would be really cool for photographers because there’s just so much there. The tunnels are awesome. The long hallways with lots of doors are like something out of a movie. It was fun just running through and taking pictures of everything they could! The walls at Fort Frederick were really cool. The blocks that make up the walls were actually hand cut by slaves when the fort was built. They’re really well done too. And different rows are made with bricks of different heights, but it’s all done perfectly smoothly. Even the corners are perfectly rounded
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8MFtjYasZv-GeEAnRHTut28BsA_uTLnKkYWIZN2Igga2BBhWgqi89WAwXr_OQFapbdibnDgmh8GmxOlnSY5yZQPAExcqhy_OlWV6WtYzIsxg-ZDa-wh8ekGrPHsz2i_-iEIlW5mzKRTM/s320/fort+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362670790154996322" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrIuL-6MF2K5PKRwjpbZg_LYo6gXdwrQzaSBJJo_WB83UsoWhbwEfIHuVsrr567gE14JRxn_74B9k5p87h3nyrHkJr7Xkd2NCOdvAHkuWpdgKIR8kLSmOB5zvKDuMdxqCkq5_Y55LHoZE/s320/fot+tunnels+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362670796964402146" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDJfMd8djPG11WnVUHtkVpAUTlcYjOiFXxbJB68KyD0bTtCwQvkA-OohBGWxD5_fnHqZ1dFw7ButtmP789JC6L2t0xsKO5elxElpUDCT99Thw9WNz7tSdsImV_Gn1jJQ4coDHYGn-FhGQ/s320/fort+doors+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362670794757631490" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEic2Ptyu21XQc_KsmliEC5vIlxuk9UWYwURCYJg-vlF1e5BT9_NIPk-jyWcDKxUKwp-dHcuCNGRM7q6aC24NrMdJmh4WGviZLE9l6yKJcEG7njCXWAf-9Opi_rB9Fdye6Vh49VMaz24YE0/s320/quinn+behind+bars.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362670807768418226" />

On another p-day they went out to the old abandoned Cuban airport and climbed in the old planes there. The navy SEALS came in and disabled them in the invasion. The big one where they are sticking out of the cockpit was Cuban and the other one was Russian. It was so cool! The runway is totally intact and the beach at the end of it is pretty cool too. Normally, they see the Caribbean Sea, but on this side of the island, they see the Atlantic, so that was cool too.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh49ZKCY2GfGBJDm0zcmrfXRIzZrJEE9uA6cbyK4s0mmgE6uQh05oHrmunKalQjXJQobzmqj94cWzwWE5Pd9-jNhl2KgcnibYk-WaLPzEb5iwteAug1PK1aiSRYskZmx8oBVp-FcLTQejQ/s320/inside+plane1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362671998249464530" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEizw9LJk9LfbDkIX4wEdiGYd5FrbJMFtY5SzYYlRQX2vl9rDhMjH_vcr894RKxlVgEWDM6lG0kHrrZihjybXxRVibNR82hIP1evDaEkpnBZzpOQybRiEDXTi-hq74XZze-EqOeoSuPV_WQ/s320/inside+plane2.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362672003940854610" />
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0Ln0uiv35pkzfhu51RYmYc3f3A4ezlvQDUsmS0Y93_cccUvHeQ7EtWphjdOtqgRIDr96BHdiRgDVs8hMXpIJF0f7x0tch6epVLE8gjVyI6zSPl0zWt9lYKGjtv_6TDREyusujACvFvLs/s320/runway+grenada.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362671991504096482" />
During that day they also saw this random monkey.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjAJ3bb0F6s7Fn71brUlArBGZLs8GN_YTN2h4JibB8OoxmhBPWKT6P4wWdKvj96GOkxCW-Jp4cwXIzw-yOm8VlZl2GxwRmqG9YCh29toaLMkZeDgvxSfMXhORYPNQL9rc_HcjEsIITHkWE/s320/random+monkey.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362672008285915986" />

They drove around the entire island on that same p-day.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjEpgEe8jQ4qrgamOE0jUaOCloYgztb-_9EPb4PyT6a3I4qRqGPto4qRfzxqNG_lW7nRetgys5IFCNUaZKuY-9hAme7bjd1nMSBlRG4nJwnJeN4yT9sTgxfo_bGx8vc81bg5AMeRDlSSSg/s320/atlantic+ocean+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5362672014792034850" />
They are having some real good success here. He left for Grenada on Wednesday June 24th, so his next letter should have an update on the new locations. He finished his St. Vincent time in Kingstown. Quinns’ new companion will be Elder Sarager. He has worked with him a few times already so the transition should not be such a shock. The only people serving in Grenada will be Quinn & Elder Sarager and Brother & Sister Rasmussen, a senior couple. He has met them before and likes them both.
As far as the stories we have been following in St. Vincent, Tony and Donna are planning on getting married before they get baptized. Quinn is sad he will miss seeing Donna get baptized.
As far as the move to Grenada, there should be a state organized there (pretty soon since they have so many members). As soon as the stake is organized they will open a new area called Bartika. It is deeper in the Amazon, but Quinn has no idea if he will be going there. He would like to because the people who inhabit this area are direct descendents of the Lamanites. These are the people that the Book of Mormon was written specifically to speak too!
Big things continue to happen in the mission. There were 68 people baptized in the last week. That is a new record for the mission.Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-16971567659458323182009-06-10T17:11:00.000-07:002009-06-10T17:15:52.277-07:00Just an UpdateJune 1st was quite interesting. It was a national holiday, so everything was closed. There was one store open to buy groceries, but that’s it. They went back to Wallilabou Bay, where they filmed pirates and ate lunch in the restaurant there.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEJwl6LTiL6mNI26_kbLG4MW_uxA1q9hyVJknsGko4PhdhdRwP2pw1eY2QUPCROvqF7W_bBDcgdKyAzuhKhlaJjfY2F803_g7WjKtCRNlEKo1KWL6opiQwmPU__1laJIdd8qYaetmeZu8/s320/metal+swinging+thing+060209.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345856751864951794" />
The big metal thing that jack sparrow swings off of and the boat mast he stops off onto the dock as the ship is sinking.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj92zUdECFWdd-jTSeWz6heSkXbW8mBUI2BiQyUXWZ2OVzlv2uyPvugZ-z8pewXmjyJEMGZbio9190k6gP8EEujqEifoDVs70SHoTfa9erbdM8I5B9KQatMoh9zvi-6hhWZu82g9aXd3XI/s320/quinn+at+priates+wall+060209.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345856756068644242" />
A wall with pictures of the cast and crew and some signatures as well. Jonny Depp’s was right in the middle of the skull.

> So, as far as the work is going… It’s moving onward! They are teaching lots of new people and have met some really cool people. They began teaching a 19 year old girl who lives with her boyfriend a couple weeks ago. She came to church this week and loved it. She knows the church is true and is working on moving out of her boyfriends house so she can be baptized. Her baptism date is set for the 20th!
So even though it was going quite slowly before, it’s picking up a lot.

Quinn has been busy making improvements to the new church. It has a long way to go before it will be ready to hold meetings in. It is big enough to hold over 100 people. The branch right now only has 35 people, but it leaves lots of room for growth.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgtrYjMhog8NAhNCz3hp3rp5IncgC0TJGWiFsv-NTpwV-pfZ4tEKcFtr6HkQmqT-vWFK_V84Iz86-mpZJyQ4q3dVyuzIxUG_AwEcx_k891zi2XCV70wSbcL1eZnubeSqUFnw5O4NMQNnNY/s320/Calliquah+church+060909.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345856758678596194" />
The Church

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghzreUYZqknIFuD2uYYl_veNEomPvs0izKYIDZ8-I822rlqYuc9kQyZm-PXWxbjTz2aBuqXqGkyOWc5VQtDvoIC_Qt9d-JDVvOGHv3VyllBf5RTteZEpcWE4D9dS9ATII35JkeZfsW5wo/s320/Calliquah+church+everyone+on+top+060809.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5345856766988801538" />
Everyone on the top of the church. Hell’s Gate has 3 different waterfalls. He says the water is absolutely beautiful, and really has no reflection, so you can see the rocks anywhere along the way.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 240px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIqNt5ZsgXqX8RPXNWQAT1QwYQgHEEizUVGsua2b3GmiqSyfZJYnaIq1G7QNLjapVZhMscEPeIaMZJj93qsO02i6U-182pVHP7_Dv5miUk7kjC4DXjC15En4jR3j2BuZTNgfvvIUFFcwA/s320/Hells+gate+1.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343099891227289026" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTNkpx6Uyr6HosnOoHBT1NLmLZKVakLWLA4fxFinUpZ2nHibizaOccn4jR9Re2884l8jMbH4c-W8Qa8pJPLSylu6sWtyFERPpQu5xWizPivPfo-oiZ6lfOyBkdmoyIOdSUY-hG7ay6AiI/s320/quinn+in+river+at+hells+gate.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343099294103421378" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4zHMl8_2CuGsnOng9ZVH29yF1BRWcIKSskPfUX2tFoaalOb-CiQP4ncQSyXVKIKm2d-SHLaCF-BBhrAc34bne7B1bywYre2ST7mJKHm9Q5N5Z80XvbXijNZS2MQEEg81AyW3ydfYjGsk/s320/quinn+with+hells+gate+waterfall.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343099290017830002" />

Quinn is in Calliaqua. It is pronounced Cal’-uh-kwah. The work is slow but continuing on. He is with Elder White, who will be going home soon. Quinn thinks he will be in this area for another transfer which translates to 6 months total in Calliaqua. At the next transfers Quinn will also get a new mission president. President Gamiette. Quinn has met him and his wife. He seems to like them quite well. That means Quinn gets the opportunity to learn from two different mission presidents while he serves. That is an awesome experience.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhw7xftUGVpXp3ETpGH84MOPAsfOmUPl3_qe80ufcRKmflHKXD9U9fdjzKLjuxA7wG-0hcMixscT2-dhuV7t5Is_c6LpqMYPy_v8IMK7VcVFa-xX7j1wuu_tU49KsvWWAiWTYaZFhyphenhypheni_jM/s320/Beach.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5343099299429886290" />Quinnhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09940858363852816628noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9063014871065765768.post-74619440914678562742009-05-31T21:27:00.000-07:002009-05-31T21:32:05.123-07:00TransfersThe first mission transfer is complete. Elder Biver is gone and Elder White is in! Elder White is from the Vernal Utah area. He will be leaving the mission in a few short months.
In St. Vincent most people are a form of Christian religion. The main religions are 7th day Adventist, Spiritual Baptist, Anglican, a few Catholics, a couple of Jehovah Witnesses and a lot of small churches.
Quinn has not run into any Voodoo yet. There is talk of Jumbies, which is a Zombie. Quinn has no need to worry, seeing as he is a prominent member of the Utah Zombie Defense Agency already. The flower below is from the Botanical Gardens. Size is not realistic in pictures, so just picture this flower 6 inches across.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsRycCO_2Pgn7Gz_EuSUAAkfEhPm4zVEML4D5WMsL8jjhHLillLzWvlER-bcvxinNsjHuCF1I4Grck6kha3BK2kOErGCPmjOp5Ufx4GylklSAo9f6uzvpZBaiF-xjeRFqnqOeyM5NYLRA/s320/crazy+half+flower.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5342211731865812642" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUDwUy23lGw7qxZewlkEtUGro3Hu7g-aShJANUeIKf3cQV0ljYA-Vstk_OpfU495_6s1QK3sJbAtlwumC1-KQobHe0MGgcfjbRbcTrgH2YOwS28rtDehx_mDwhXvVef1Ybh_c5xDgwfPE/s320/plant+as+big+as+quinn.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5342211740031134978" />

Quinn is excited to teach a Rastafarian this week.
